Boston QSP December Special Event
In the spirit of holidays, Boston QSP collaborates with the Consulate of French in Boston and is excited to announce our special December event on Dec. 13th. It will feature a presentation by Prof. Marc Mezard, a renowned physicist and academic administrator, currently serving as the Director of the École Normale Supérieure. The presentation will be followed by a short panel discussion featuring Boston QSP founder Rajiv Shrestha, PhD and Prof. Mezard during the event. The talks will be followed by a formal cocktail reception with exquisite French hors d’oeuvres and champagne where participants network.
The event is hosted at the elegant Residence de France, formal to cocktail dress codes required.

Speaker Detail:
Marc Mézard has served as Director of the École normale supérieure since 2012. A graduate of the École normale supérieure himself (Class of 1976), he began working for the CNRS in 1981 and defended his PhD dissertation in 1984. In 2001, he began working for Université Paris-Sud, where he directed a laboratory and a “Labex” cluster of excellence in research. He currently serves as a distinguished research director with the CNRS. He held a professorship at the École Polytechnique from 1987 to 2012. Author of 170 publications and two books and a scientist of national and international renown for his work in physical statistics, Marc Mézard has worked at the University of Rome, UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley. He has received multiple awards, including the CNRS Silver Medal, the Prix Ampère de l’Électricité de France from the Académie des Sciences, the Prix Humboldt Gay-Lussac, and the Lars Onsager Prize from the American Physical Society.
Abstract:
About 60 years after the discovery of its main molecular building blocks and mechanisms, biology has entered a new area, an area of quantitative studies, prediction and control, for which interactions with other sciences will be crucial. These developments for the next decades will lead to breakthroughs in basic knowledge of life sciences and will strongly impact medical applications.The existing strengths in ENS and its PSL Partners on our campus in Paris, in biology, in natural and computer sciences, and in mathematics provide an exceptional background, of top international level, to build this new transdisciplinary center that will foster recruitment of talents from all over the world. Focusing on four main scientific pillars – Genetics and genomics – development - multi-scale quantitative modeling, - neurosciences and emergence of cognition, this new center for research and education will allow us a better understanding of living organisms. Scientific approaches will feature a strong synergy between experiments and modeling, and will pave the way for biomedical applications, e.g. in predictive medicine and neurodegenerative processes.
